Folders in, playlists out
Copy folders into Kasset from Finder, AirDrop or the Files app and tap once. Subfolders come along, new files are picked up, and M3U, M3U8 and PLS playlist files are read too.
Audiobooks, done properly
A book keeps its own place while you play music in between. Chapters inside a single file, 15 and 30 second skips on the lock screen and in CarPlay, and speed from 0.75× to 3× with the voice unchanged.
It moves with the music
Four visualizations drawn from the actual sound: Spectrum, Scope, Orbit and Aurora. Swipe between them, or go full screen for the car mount. Nothing flashes; it breathes.
Covers for songs without art
On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, a cover is made on the device the first time a song plays. On any iPhone, one can be painted from the sound itself. Real artwork always wins when the file has it.
Sounds the way you like
A ten-band equalizer with presets that works on AirPlay and CarPlay too. Lyrics from your files, with a sync adjustment for downloads that start a beat early. A sleep timer, by minutes or at the end of the current track.
Yours, on device
No account, no cloud, no ads, no analytics. The privacy label reads “Data Not Collected”. The only network feature, online lyrics lookup, is a switch that starts off.
How it works
- Copy. Plug the phone in and drag your music folders into Finder → iPhone → Files → Kasset. AirDrop and the Files app work too.
- Tap. In Kasset, tap + and pick a folder. It becomes a playlist, with a cover.
- Play. In the car, on headphones, from the lock screen. Books pick up where you left them.
A few things you might be wondering
Is Kasset free?
Yes. Everything on this page is free, with no ads and no subscription. A one-time unlock for extras may come in a later version; playing your music and books will stay free, and there will never be a subscription.
Does it need the internet?
No. Kasset plays files that are already on your phone and has no server. The one optional online feature, looking up lyrics, is a switch that starts off, and the app says exactly what it sends when you turn it on.
Which formats does it play?
MP3, AAC and M4A, M4B audiobooks, ALAC, FLAC, WAV, AIFF and CAF. It does not play OGG, Opus or WMA, because iOS has no decoder for them.
Does it work with CarPlay?
Play, pause, next, previous and the 15 and 30 second skips for books all work from CarPlay's Now Playing screen, the lock screen and headset buttons. Browsing playlists on the car screen is coming once Apple grants the CarPlay entitlement.
