The visualizations are drawn from the sound itself, up to sixty times a second. This is the full-screen spectrum, recorded from the app with real music.
In the car, on your wrist, on iPad and Mac
CarPlay shows your playlists, books and recent plays, with what's playing marked: open a playlist on the car screen and pick any song, and a book picks up where you left it. On Apple Watch, start a playlist or a book and control what your iPhone plays. On iPad, the player sits beside your library, with Up next alongside. On the Mac, drag folders in from Finder, keep a Mini Player above your other windows, and play from the keyboard. Or just ask Siri: “Play Morning Coffee in Kasset”, “Resume my book in Kasset”.
Folders in, playlists out
Copy folders into Kasset from Finder, AirDrop or the Files app and tap once. Subfolders come along, Update from folder brings in the files you add later, sorting by date added puts them on top, and M3U, M3U8 and PLS playlist files are read too. Share a playlist as one folder, or send it to a friend’s phone nearby with a code. A song a folder holds twice is listed once.
Audiobooks, done properly
A book keeps its own place while you play music in between. Chapters inside a single file, 15 and 30 second skips on the lock screen and in CarPlay, and speed from 0.75× to 3× with the voice unchanged. And free ones: classics read by LibriVox volunteers and kept by the Internet Archive, in English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Browse the most listened to or search by title or author, hear a chapter first, then download the book: it plays offline, keeps its place and shows in CarPlay. Free, not part of Kasset Pro.
It moves with the music
Four visualizations drawn from the actual sound: Spectrum, Scope, Orbit and Aurora. Swipe between them, or go full screen for the car mount. Nothing flashes; it breathes.
Covers for songs without art
A song without artwork gets a cover made on your device the first time it plays: by Apple Intelligence where it's on (iOS 18.4 to 26), painted from the song's own sound everywhere else. Real artwork always wins when the file has it.
Sounds the way you like
A ten-band equalizer with presets that works on AirPlay and CarPlay too. Lyrics from your files, shown in the player where the cover was, with a sync adjustment for downloads that start a beat early. A sleep timer, by minutes or at the end of the current track.
Yours, on device
No account, no cloud, no ads, no analytics. The privacy label reads “Data Not Collected”. Four features use the network, and only when you start them: Wi-Fi transfer and Send nearby, both on your own network; online lyrics lookup, a switch that starts off; and free audiobooks, which send archive.org your search words and the book you pick, and nothing about you.
From any computer, over Wi-Fi
Open Wi-Fi transfer and the phone shows an address. Type it into a browser on the same network and drop in files or whole folders. Albums play gapless, and a Home Screen widget keeps play, pause and next one tap away.
Kasset Pro, once
An optional one-time purchase, never a subscription: Most played, Recently added, Forgotten favorites and Moods in CarPlay, Smart shuffle on every Shuffle, even loudness, an equalizer per playlist and per output, crossfade, smart and mood playlists, cassette and retro players, five more color themes, auto lyric sync that lines lyrics up with the singing on the device, a tag editor, and for books skip silence, voice boost, smart rewind and bookmarks with notes.
How it works
- Copy. Plug the phone in and drag your music folders into Finder → iPhone → Files → Kasset. AirDrop and the Files app work too.
- Tap. In Kasset, tap + and pick a folder. It becomes a playlist, with a cover. The same + adds audio files, music from a computer over Wi-Fi, or a free audiobook.
- Play. In the car, on headphones, from the lock screen. Books pick up where you left them.
A few things you might be wondering
Is Kasset free?
Yes. Playing your music and books is free, with no ads and no subscription, and everything that was free stays free. Kasset Pro is an optional one-time purchase for extras (the list above); it is never a subscription, one purchase covers all your devices, and Family Sharing shares it with your family.
Does it need the internet?
Not for your own files. Kasset plays what is already on your device and has no server. Wi-Fi transfer and Send nearby stay on your own network. Looking up lyrics online is a switch that starts off, and the app says exactly what it sends when you turn it on. Free audiobooks come from the Internet Archive (archive.org) when you ask for one: your search words and the book you pick go there, nothing about you, and a downloaded book then plays offline.
Which formats does it play?
MP3, AAC and M4A, M4B audiobooks, ALAC, FLAC, WAV, AIFF and CAF. It does not play OGG, Opus or WMA, because iOS has no decoder for them.
Does it work with CarPlay?
Yes. Your playlists, books and recent plays are on the car screen: open a playlist and pick any song, and a book picks up where you left it. Play, pause, next, previous and the 15 and 30 second skips for books work from CarPlay's Now Playing screen, the lock screen and headset buttons. Ask Siri on the way, too: “Play Road Trip in Kasset”.
