What's new in Kasset

Every release, newest first. The App Store only ever shows the current version's notes, so this is the whole history.

0.7.6 · November 5, 2026

  • Covers one by one on iOS and macOS 27: Image Playground opens for one song after another, with Kasset's idea for each, and the cover you pick is kept. Skip a song or stop any time, continue later from the same menu, and Undo takes back the whole run. In Home ≡ ▸ Covers, or a playlist's ⋯ menu for its songs. Free.
  • A cover made with Image Playground is the picture it made, nothing else: it no longer starts from the cover painted from the sound, which showed through as a second picture.

0.7.5 · November 3, 2026

  • On iOS 27, make a cover with Image Playground from Now Playing's or a playlist's ⋯ menu: it opens with Kasset's idea for the music, and the picture you pick is kept.
  • A song Kasset can't play is named instead of skipped in silence, and AAC songs saved with an .mp3 name play.
  • Redo covers for all songs, in a playlist's ⋯ menu, makes Kasset's covers again (and can be undone); covers you picked and the songs' own art stay. Covers are made with Apple Intelligence wherever it can run, with nothing to set, and painted from the sound only where it can't (or for a song it refuses); Make covers for all songs, for a playlist or the whole library, replaces covers painted from the sound in one go, with Undo.
  • Send nearby takes the playlist's cover and each song's cover along; on the other phone they fill gaps and never replace a cover of its own (except one painted from the sound).
  • A song's small cover in a playlist changes as soon as its cover is made again or undone.

0.7.4 · November 2, 2026

  • Drag and drop, on iPad (from Files or an app beside Kasset) and Mac (from Finder): a folder dropped on the library becomes a playlist in the folder's order, or a book if it looks like one; songs dropped between two songs of a playlist go there; the same folder dropped again updates its playlist, and the same file is never copied twice; files that aren't audio are named.

0.7.3 · October 30, 2026

  • Made for the open iPhone Duo: the player and your library each take one side of the fold, held sideways or upright. Stood half open, the visuals play on top and the controls sit below.

0.7.2 · October 26, 2026

  • Made for iPhone Duo: Kasset fills the outer screen, and open on its side it shows the player beside your library.

0.7.1 · October 21, 2026

  • Even loudness (Kasset Pro) now raises quiet songs and audiobooks too, not only turns loud ones down, with a limiter so a raised song never distorts. An album played in order keeps its own quiet and loud tracks, as on the record.
  • The sound runs at your speaker's or headphones' own rate, so files are converted once instead of twice.
  • Book links: Open on a book's page at kasset.suprun.ca/books opens that book in Free audiobooks.

0.7.0 · October 16, 2026

  • Like: a heart on Now Playing, and Like in every song's menu, keeps your Liked Songs, a playlist at the top of Home with the newest first. Rename it if you like: it keeps collecting your hearts, and keeps the name when unliking the last song takes it away and the next like brings it back. It has its own cover, a heart, so it never looks like your other playlists (a cover you make for it replaces the heart).
  • Delete from Device, in a song's menu: Kasset asks first, naming the file and the playlists it leaves, then deletes it from wherever it is (Kasset's folder, a folder you picked, iCloud Drive) and from every playlist. On the Mac it goes to the Trash. If it is playing, the next song plays.
  • Delete several at once: tick songs with Select, then the bar's trash. The bar's Remove (from the playlist only) is now the minus sign.
  • The heart in CarPlay, next to shuffle and repeat, and on the Apple Watch's Now Playing.
  • Fixed: on an iPhone, while something played, the mini player covered Select's bar and the Undo after removing songs.

0.6.1 · October 15, 2026

  • Free audiobooks: browse by shelf (Mystery, Adventure, Sci-fi & fantasy and ten more) and find a book as you type, at once and offline, from Kasset's own list of LibriVox's books. A mistyped word still finds it. Each book is listed once, with its length, and a sample plays right from the list.
  • Send nearby to someone who already has the playlist: their Kasset offers to update it, and only the songs they don't have come over, each in its place. Nothing on their phone is removed; Keep both still makes a second playlist.
  • Help: Share Kasset sends a friend the link to the App Store.
  • Folders opens at once again: it reads only Kasset's own folder. Places picked before with Browse another location (iCloud Drive, a USB stick) are listed under Other locations and read only when you tap one. Receiving a playlist no longer waits on them either.
  • Free audiobooks keep to the 13+ rating more reliably: recordings LibriVox files as erotica stay out even when the Internet Archive has not tagged them.

0.6.0 · October 14, 2026

  • Free audiobooks: classics read by LibriVox volunteers and kept by the Internet Archive, right in Kasset. + ▸ Free audiobooks…: the most listened to, or search by title or author, in English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Free, not part of Kasset Pro.
  • Hear a chapter first, then add the book. It keeps its place, plays offline and shows in CarPlay.
  • + is now where you add everything: a folder, audio files, a computer over Wi-Fi, or a free book.
  • Sort by date added follows the date the Files app shows, and Oldest first is the exact reverse.
  • A big library no longer makes Kasset look frozen: making a playlist shows how far it is.
  • With Display Zoom or large text, the song's picture stays large on the player.
  • Adding a song a playlist already has says so ("Already in Morning Coffee"), however you add it, instead of doing nothing. The same song picked again from Downloads or iCloud is not copied in a second time.
  • Help ends with a link to rate Kasset on the App Store.
  • Mac: Done closes the window it is in again (track info, Send nearby and the other sheets).

0.5.0 · October 10, 2026

  • Kasset speaks German, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Play picks up where you were after the app was closed, Shuffle everything and smart playlists too, in the car as well. With nothing to pick up, it starts music, not a book.
  • An audiobook pauses while your navigation speaks and goes on right after, so you miss nothing.
  • Siri: "Play Morning Coffee in Kasset", "Shuffle Morning Coffee in Kasset", "Resume my book in Kasset", "Shuffle everything in Kasset". In Shortcuts and Spotlight too.
  • Share a playlist as one folder: the songs numbered in order, with their lyrics and cover, for AirDrop and Files. Add the folder in Kasset and it is the playlist again, a book as a book.
  • Send nearby: a code on your screen; a friend on the same Wi-Fi scans it with the Camera and Kasset on their phone takes the whole playlist, lyrics and cover included. Without Kasset, the songs download one by one.
  • A playlist lists each song once: when a folder holds two copies of a song (Song.m4a and Song 1.m4a, or an MP3 and an M4A of it), the better file is listed and the playlist says so, with List them to show both.
  • A folder added from Files is recognized as a book when it is one, as folders on the phone already were.
  • Kasset Pro works in the car from the start: smart shuffle, the equalizers and even loudness stayed off when CarPlay opened Kasset before the phone did.
  • Kasset Pro in the car: Most played, Recently added, Forgotten favorites and Moods at the top of Playlists, a tap away.
  • Kasset Pro: every Shuffle is Smart shuffle, the songs flowing by energy, and even loudness is on from the start.
  • Kasset Pro: an equalizer per output. The car, your headphones and a speaker each keep their own curve, added to your music's.
  • CarPlay pins the playlists you started last; every song in a long playlist shows its artwork.
  • Easier on the battery: nothing is drawn while Kasset is in the background, and older iPhones draw the visualizations at 30 frames a second.

0.4.1 · October 5, 2026

  • Sort a playlist by date added, newest or oldest first, to find the songs you added last. Any sort can now go either way: A to Z or Z to A.
  • A playlist keeps the sort you choose: songs you add to its folder later land in their place. Your order brings back the order you had.
  • Recently added (Kasset Pro) goes by when a song arrived, even when a copy kept the file's old dates.
  • Mac: the AirPlay button under the song now chooses where the sound plays: your Mac's speakers, displays and headphones, and an AirPlay speaker once you have picked it in the menu bar.

0.4.0 · October 4, 2026

  • CarPlay marks what's playing: the playlist or book that's on, and the song in its list and in Recent. Tap the line under the song's title in Now Playing to open its playlist.
  • Songs in CarPlay show their artwork, in a playlist and in Up Next.
  • On iOS 26, CarPlay looks like the music apps you know: Play and Shuffle at the top of a playlist, and your latest playlists pinned at the top.

0.3.0 · October 1, 2026

  • CarPlay: playlists, books and recent plays on the car screen; open a playlist and pick any song.
  • Apple Watch: start a playlist or book from your wrist, with Now Playing controls.
  • iPad: the player beside your library, Up next alongside, drag folders in from Files.
  • Mac (from 2026-10-03): drag folders in from Finder, the player beside your library, a Mini Player above your other windows, and keyboard control.
  • Lyrics in the player where the cover was; full-screen lyrics centred.
  • Make covers for all songs in a playlist at once.
  • Kasset Pro: Auto lyric sync, on the device, or tap the line you hear.

0.2.0 · September 28, 2026

  • Gapless playback: albums play straight through.
  • Wi-Fi transfer: send music from any computer's browser on the same network.
  • Home Screen widget with play, pause and next.
  • Kasset Pro, a one-time unlock: cassette and retro players in Now Playing and as widget styles, five more color themes, crossfade, even loudness, an equalizer per playlist, smart shuffle, smart playlists and a year in listening, mood playlists with Apple Intelligence, a tag editor and lyric timing, and for books: skip silence, voice boost, smart rewind and bookmarks with notes.
  • Everything in 0.1 stays free.

0.1.0 · September 25, 2026

  • First release. Folders become playlists; books remember their place; four visualizations that move with the sound; covers made on the device; equalizer; lyrics; CarPlay and lock screen controls.
